Saturday preparations for the Swale Wassail
“A great day on Saturday at Sittingbourne Shopping Centre, helping to show people how to make paper using cotton (old T-shirts etc), put into the paper making machine, that grinds it down with water into a pulp, ready for paper making.
I made a lovely little sheet of paper too.
We, with Dana Goodburn-Brown, were celebrating Sittingbourne Paper Mills’ amazing past, in 1912, having held the title of the largest newsprint producers in the world!
Andrew Richardson also brought along some amazing artifacts and had the famous Anglo-Saxon sword on show (as seen on Digging For Britain)!
Toni Mount taught us lots about ancient medical remedies and how they were used. She also brought along her fascinating selection of books and novels (available on Amazon).
Damian Goodburn was carving Anglo-Saxon runes into wood foraged from their orchard. As we carved, Damian had us hanging on his every word, listening to his amazing stories of his archaeological past.
It was great to meet Sam Rapp, the dyslexic poet, who was making signs and maps and even came and had a go at making some paper with us. She was very pleased and proud of her paper, made with her own fair hands.”
Testimonial from volunteer Laura Jane, from the day.
