Tom Adriani studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins from where he graduated in 2005. In both 2D and time based media, he creates modern mythologies which take inspiration from the fables and fairy tales of the past.
Much of his research and artwork is focused on the role of monsters in the individual and collective consciousness. He is particularly interested in how and why these otherworldly creatures (as found in so many ethnographic artifacts) were created and used by our ancient ancestors, and also what modern incarnations can tell us about society as it is now.
In 2018, he was one of 13 artists awarded the prestigious Animation Award by the BBC and the BFI. This commission gave him the opportunity to create ‘The Three Crow Boys’ which premiered on BBC4 to an audience of over one million people. It was also screened at the BFI Southbank (London). This short experimental animation was screened internationally, including the Oscar qualifying animation festival, Animest (Romania). The Three Crow Boys animation was largely inspired by the costumes of 17th century European plague doctors.

Tom is also developing an animated narrative in association with AMTeC, which follows the microscopic discoveries Dana has made of a tardigrade (also known as a water bear) in her CSI Sittingbourne laboratory. He explains that "I'm amazed and inspired by this tiny creature, which can essentially cheat death for decades (or possibly longer!) by shutting down it's vital functions. It is for me a symbol of an ancient, primitive world and yet feels so futuristic.
